SciViD: Research and Inventive Methods

SciViD

SciViD: Research and Inventive Methods is a collection of video preprints on how research is done. It covers experimental techniques, research workflows, instrumentation, protocols and methods for inventive problem solving such as TRIZ, across science and engineering, presented as video papers, video protocols, narrated demonstrations and interactive models. Items in this collection are preprints: they are checked against a posting checklist (verified references, clear status labels and disclosed AI use), but they are not peer reviewed.

The collection covers data collection, experimental design, analytical tools, prototyping, lab automation, AI-assisted discovery and simulation workflows, reproducible protocols, open-science toolkits, fabrication methods and systematic approaches to inventive problem solving. Protocols list materials, safety notes, a step-by-step procedure, representative data with uncertainty and troubleshooting, and AI-based workflows state how their outputs were verified.

For authors, posting is free. Each item receives a SciViD identifier and a version number and is labeled “Preliminary · Not peer reviewed”; later versions are added with a dated note of changes. Authors who need a DOI can deposit the final version in an open repository such as Zenodo, using the same title and author list and linking to the SciViD page; the SciViD page then shows both identifiers. For authors under 18, DOIs are added only through Emerging Scholars. SciViD Studio, a separate paid service, can turn a manuscript or a published paper into a narrated video and an interactive virtual lab; the author approves the script and the final version, and any AI-generated voice or footage is disclosed.

For readers and viewers, the collection offers practical visual guides to methods, instruments and research workflows. Because items are not peer reviewed, please treat them as preliminary work, check the cited sources, and follow your own institution’s safety rules before using any protocol.
