Video Studio
Order a film
SciViD Video Studio makes explanatory films, about 8 to 10 minutes long, about work posted on SciViD. A film shows the research question, the method and the result in more depth than a video abstract, using animation, simulation, equations and graphs drawn from the work’s own data and, where available, its interactive lab. Video Studio is a separate, optional paid service: posting an item stays free and never requires a film.
Who can order
Any author of a SciViD item can order a film about it: researchers, students and school students. A film can be used, for example, in a conference talk, in teaching, in a grant report or in a portfolio. Authors under 18 order through a parent or guardian, who signs the agreement and pays.
How it works
-
Send the request form below. We review the item and quote a price for the film. Work starts once the quote is accepted.
-
The authors approve the script and check every number, equation and graph against the posted work before the film is finished.
-
When ordering, the authors choose an open film or a library film.
Open film or library film
Rights in each film are set out in a written agreement.
-
Open film: the authors may show and publish the full film anywhere.
-
Library film: the full film is shown to subscribers of the planned SciViD Film Library, and a trailer of up to 90 seconds is public. The authors receive a share of library revenue under the written agreement. SciViD decides whether a film is included.
Price and payment
-
The price is quoted for each film after we review the item.
-
If a grant or an institution pays for the film, please check the funder’s or institution’s rules first.
-
Ordering a film does not affect whether an item is posted, how it is screened, or whether it is selected for a DOI.
Standards
-
Films about preprints that have not been peer reviewed are labelled accordingly.
-
Every number, equation and graph in a film is taken from the posted work or its data.
-
Films ordered by their authors are labelled “Commissioned by the authors”.
-
Any AI-generated footage or voice is disclosed in the credits.
