Film Library
Coming soon
The SciViD Film Library is a planned subscription collection of explanatory films, about 8 to 10 minutes long, about work posted on SciViD. It is not open yet. The price and launch date will be announced before it opens.
Who it is for
The library is planned for individuals, schools and universities.
What stays free
Every posted item stays open: the manuscript, the 1 to 3 minute video abstract in the author’s own voice and any interactive lab are free to read and watch, under the licence shown on the item. Only the film itself can be placed in the library, and its trailer of up to 90 seconds is public.
How films enter the library
Authors order a film through Video Studio and choose the library option. SciViD decides whether a film is included. Rights in each film are set out in a written agreement.
The authors receive a share of library revenue under the written agreement, for an agreed exclusive period, after which they may make the film open. The library has no revenue yet, so we cannot predict what a film will earn.
Personal use of a library film
During the exclusive period the authors may always:
-
show the film at conferences, seminars, defences and in teaching;
-
share it by private link with admission committees, competition juries, funders and employers;
-
include it in a portfolio;
-
publish the trailer, or an excerpt of up to 90 seconds, anywhere.
During the exclusive period the authors may not post the full film publicly, for example on YouTube, a website or social media, allow a conference to publish a recording that contains the full film, or sell the film or transfer rights in it.
Standards
-
Films about preprints that have not been peer reviewed are labelled accordingly.
-
Every number, equation and graph in a film is taken from the posted work or its data.
-
Films ordered by their authors are labelled “Commissioned by the authors”.
-
Any AI-generated footage or voice is disclosed in the credits.
